Food Supply Chain Sustainability

A case study to link raw agricultural supply with local demand, and how pricing at different stages of the food supply chain impacts society.

Data Collection

The typical stages of the food supply chain have been compartmentalized into five main areas for clarity.

Data Management

To bolster our research quality, we employed SMART goals, ensuring our study remains specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-sensitive.

Machine Learning

Our study seeks to unveil the intricate connections within our food supply chain and their implications for Downtown Houston's societal fabric.

Soybean by the Pound

Pricing models were developed from a per bushel per acre perspective. A bushel is approximately 60lbs and an acre generates about 3,100lbs of soybeans.

Beef by the pound

Pricing models were developed from a hundredweight (CWT) per acre. A hundredweight is about 100lbs. An acre generates anywhere between 160-180lbs of cattle meat.

Market Deviation

Due to the nature of soy products, where 68% of the market goes into agricultural feed uses as soybean meal.

Globalized Distribution

Research phase showed that any distribution company could potentially hire a commercial driver to bring a shipment in, or provide less-than-truckload (LTL) services at short notice.
